when you figure out love is all that matters after all...
The girl wandered the streets of Pioneer Square. It was kind of a cool place. Not the kind of spot you'd really expect so see Mercedes James, but she was quite enjoying herself, surprisingly. It was a day off, and she'd had nothing better to do, so Mercedes had made her way over here, just for something to do and not actually expecting to kind of enjoy herself...
At the current moment she was browsing around some little privately owned shop that made candles. It was actually really cool, and the aromas rising from everything were incredible. There was even a little window into the back room where you could watch and see how they made all the candles. Mercedes was quite intrigued by the whole thing. She wandered through, smelling candles like an old lady or something. She had to laugh at herself a bit. If anyone who knew her were to run into her here, they would be quite surprised.
Eventually, she wandered out without anything in hand, as she really had no money at the current moment, and moved on to the next shop, a cute little boutique. The clothes th ere were atrocious, obviously made for ladies much older than Mercedes, but she kind of got a kick out of it. She didn't stay long be fore she was moving on to a little coffee shop. She ordered a cup of coffee and flopped into a chair, glancing out the window at the people moving through, sipping absently at the steaming coffee.
She let her thoughts wander. Edward, Rosalie, her cats, her job, her apartment. She didn't really focus on any one thought, just let her mind go, thinking about whatever happened to pop into her brain. It would probably be rather amusing for anyone else to get into Mercedes' head. She had some interesting thoughts, for sure. She heaved a sigh, wondering what life would bring her now. She watched people come in and out of the shop without really caring who they were or what they were doing. It weren't as if any of them even glanced her way, so what did it matter? Sadie didn't care, that was for sure.

It had been on an impulse that Jo had decided to spend her day off at Pioneer Square. She wasn't completely sure why it had been her choice, aside from the fact she wanted a bit of fresh air. All she knew was she'd slid a pair of Gucci sunglasses onto her head and headed off, ending up here. Currently the brunette stood on the sidewalk as various people strode by, her green eyes admiring a silly looking teddy bear. It looked like the sort they made back when her grandmother had been a kid, before machines had been around. He was dressed like a clown with a little cone hat tilted to the side on his fuzzy head and a pink and yellow ruffled collar around his neck, with three matching buttons sewn to his stomach. The left side of the bear excluding his head had been died a pink color and everything else was a sandy color. His expression was one of sober thoughtfulness, but it drew Jo in. The twenty year old had no idea what she would do with a toy bear, but all the same she would herself entering Burton's Bears.
The interior had a homey feel, reminding her of a simple country home with the quilts and other stuffed creations filling the room. An older woman stood from where she sat behind a treadle sewing machine in the corner, working on what seemed to be a partially finished Raggedy Andy. The woman thanked Jo for her interest in her shop before introducing herself as Berta Burton, but telling Jo to call her Bertie. "I'm Jo," the young woman said with a smile and a nod, shaking Bertie's hand. "I was interested in one of the bears in the window. He's wearing a carnival hat." Bertie knew instantly the toy she spoke of and led Jo over, reaching into the display and picking the bear up, "This is Melancholy Merle the Carnival Clown," she said with a smile before explaining he was the third in a series of unique bears of Pinewood carnival.
Five minutes later Jo emerged with Melancholy Merle tucked carefully into a colorful striped bag with the store's logo on it. He was not a cheap bear, but he was unique and one of a kind. She'd have him for a long time and if she ever found a deserving child it would be theirs. She wandered down the pathway a little ways before finding a coffee shop with the door left open, the scent of coffee filling the nearby area. Jo couldn't resist, she strolled into the shop, her black suede cowgirl boots making a clicking noise against the tile. She joined the line of four or so people mindlessly clicking her tongue as she scanned the menu causing the businessman in front of her to turn around and glare until she stopped making the noise.
After what felt like a long time but had really been a matter of a few minutes Jo was the one standing at the counter. She smiled at the barista before ordering a grande iced coffee. She searched through her Coach bag and located the money to pay for her drink before moving to the side to wait. She pushed a strand of dyed dark hair behind her ear looking around at some people in the dining area, noticing the place was crowded. Great... coffee to go? Her drink was slid onto the counter and Jo picked it up, grabbing a lid and straw from the holders on the counter before turning to check again for a table. Nothing. She frowned for a moment and then scoured for a table with only one person. She found it, a girl with dark hair sitting at a table by herself, seemingly apathetic to her surroundings.
Being the outgoing, gregarious sort she was Jo stalked right over and stood to the side, a smile pasted upon her pale lips. "Mind if I sit here," she questioned, gesturing toward the chair across from the girl. Patiently she stood there, waiting for an answer either way. She'd had some nasty responses to her requests to sit with people over the years, but sometimes she met some cool people. Even so her father claimed she would get herself shot one day because of her overly sociable behavior. Oh, well. It hadn't happened yet she was pleased to say, and she'd also not gone into debt nor developed an STD. There was a reason Jo preferred her mother. She shook these thoughts away and tuned back in just in time to hear the girl's response.
