i'm tired of living in the dark
can anyone see me down here?
can anyone see me down here?
"Just a water," a young woman ordered, standing at the counter of McDonald's. Who ordered just water at McDonald's? Jo Dixon, that was who. Lately she'd found herself eating less and less, unable to enjoy food without wanting to throw up. So it seemed best to just stop eating, despite her already small frame. When Jo's mom had visited the woman's lips had formed a thin line and she'd said something to the effect of 'men like a little something to hold onto in bed.' That was the reality of your mother being the head columnist for Cosmo magazine. With this thought in mind Jo frowned, looking at the menu board, "And a small fry." She fished through her Kooba bag, locating the matching wallet, and handing a five dollar bill to the woman behind the counter.
Change in hand Jo moved to the side letting the clerk take the next order, staring thoughtfully at the woman as she waited on her food. She had pretty red hair, naturally that was it appeared to Jo, but the mohawk was doing her no favors. She shrugged the thought off just as someone tossed a tray with her fries and a courtesy cup on it her way. She moved to the messy drink area, filling her cup and pressing one of those annoying flimsy lids on top. She grabbed a straw and for a moment considered ketchup before deciding against it. Too many carbs. Moving outside to a table in a little fenced in area on the street Jo plopped herself down, staring at her fries before hesitantly picking one up and popping it in her mouth.
Grease. Did it get more disgusting that this? She swallowed hastily, and began to choke on the stupid thing, gagging and unable to take a breath. People were staring but no one seemed particularly concerned, more aggravated that she was interrupting their dining pleasure. Finally she coughed the impertinent fry up and she took a long sip of her water. Gosh, did she always have to embarrass herself this way? She frowned taking another sip of the water before picking the wet fry up, swaddling it in a napkin and setting it on the side of her tray. Now what was she supposed to do with the rest of the fries? She looked at the gray birds strutting around the pavement, looking for any bit of food.
Jo took pity on them, picking up a fry and tossing it to them, the ugly avians rushing in a whirl of feathers and hungry mouths to the potato. A laugh bubbled up from Jo's throat and she laughed, genuinely humored. She'd always liked pigeons, sure most people thought they were gross and disgusting disease carrying things, but as for Jo they were humorous. It wasn't like she was going to pick one up and cuddle it, but she did like them. More fries were tossed their way, Jo becoming absorbed in the birds snatching up her fries. It was every bit as entertaining as anything on TV. The squawking and general scuffling of the birds had sent several people inside, but Jo didn't really care. She had every right to feed the birds now didn't she?[/sub]
